Why San Antonio Keeps Coming Back: Great Food, Great Service and a Team That Cares

"We are not a fast food restaurant, we are a great food restaurant." Here's how our team turns that promise into service guests talk about, and why so many San Antonians make us part of their routine.

    Quick answer

Guests keep coming back to Alamo Biscuit Co. & Panadería for three reasons: scratch-made food (biscuits, pan dulce and house-smoked brisket made in our own kitchen), a team that treats every guest like family, and a welcoming place for every occasion, from a quick weekday breakfast in the Medical Center to a 24/7 table on the River Walk. As our founder John Vale says, "We are not a fast food restaurant, we are a great food restaurant."

    What Makes Great Restaurant Service?

Great service isn't just about getting food to the table fast. It's about feeling welcome the moment you walk in, having someone who remembers how you like your coffee, and leaving happier than you arrived. That's the standard our team holds itself to every shift, at every location.

Since we opened our first kitchen on Huebner Road in 2019, our goal has been simple: make breakfast the most fun meal of the day. Great food gets you in the door. Great people are why you come back.

What Do Guests Say About Our Service?

We'd rather let our guests do the talking. Here's what reviewers have shared on Yelp:

"I received excellent service from Tamara. I wanted for nothing."

    — Oliver B., Yelp

"The service is fantastic, the food is delicious and creative, and the inside is comfy."

    — Edwin H., Yelp

    Who Is Behind the Food?

Every plate starts in our kitchen. Our cooks smoke brisket in-house for dishes like the Brisket Benedict and our brisket tacos, and our bakers make biscuits and pan dulce fresh for the panadería case. That care in the kitchen is the foundation for everything our front-of-house team delivers at your table.

How Did Alamo Biscuit Co. Start?

Founder John Vale, a 2013 UTSA graduate and former restaurant franchisee, wanted to build something different for San Antonio. Back in 2019, he couldn't find a place to get a homemade biscuit in town, so he created one. Plenty of people told him a biscuit restaurant would never make it here. Our guests proved them wrong, and our team keeps proving it every day.

Today Alamo Biscuit Co. has grown to the Medical Center and the River Walk, with Brooks City Base coming soon. Along the way, we've been featured by local outlets like KENS 5, KSAT and the San Antonio Current. Read more about our story.

How Do We Give Back to San Antonio?

Hospitality doesn't stop at our front door. Through our community outreach, we serve meals to neighbors in need, and we proudly support UTSA. Being part of San Antonio's community is a big reason our community keeps showing up for us.
